Porath, Gloria R. (28 February 1930 - 25 August 2011)

Gloria R. Porath, age 81, entered eternal rest Aug. 25, 2011, at the Bethel Center in Arpin.

Gloria Porath was born Feb. 28, 1930, in the Town of Lynn, Clark County, to Kenneth and Rose (Vierqutz) Langrehr.  She attended the Goldenrod School, Town of Lynn and Immanuel Parochial in Marshfield, and also a short time at Marshfield Senior High.

She began work at an early age, first at Woolworth’s Five and Ten; she also waitressed for Christy’s Café and then worked at Blum Brothers Box Factory.  She was united in marriage to Victor Porath May 21, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage in Marshfield.  Rev. G. M. Krueger officiated.  She and her husband took up farming on the home farm, along with various outside jobs.  She also worked for Steinie’s Club 10 at Neillsville for seven and one-half years until joining her husband at Wick Building Systems in Marshfield.  After her husband’s death in 1996, she sold the farm and moved to Granton.

She loved country life, hard work and cooking. She also had a great love for cats.  While on the farm it was not unusual to see a dozen trailing her about.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Lawrence in 1989 and one brother in infancy.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Granton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gloria was laid to rest beside her husband in the own of Lynn Cemetery, with a graveside service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.
