Gerber, Fred (Burns out - 9 SEP 1905)

Last Saturday night about 10 o’clock Fred Gerber was awakened by a noise which upon first hearing he thought a big storm was coming up.  Saying to his wife that he would get up and investigate, she admonished him to lie down so as not to disturb or awaken their baby, but he could not sleep as the noise steadily increasing thoroughly awakened him and he arose in time to find the house afire and to get his family and himself out and into a place of safety, though little more as the flames starting in the wood shed had that and the kitchen well underway and beyond any possibility of saving when discovered.  It was a great good fortune that the family escaped with their lives.  Mr. Gerber managed to save a few personal effects though practically they lost everything within the house.  The origin of the fire is a mystery, as they had no fire in the house since early morning, and it is a matter of conjecture where the fire originated and from what cause.  The place was insured with the Lynn Mutual Fire Insurance Co., which insurance will materially aid Mr. Gerber in rebuilding.
