Fitzmaurice, Pvt. Thomas #3 (11 MAR 1923 - 16 JAN 1945)

 

The hour for the memorial service last Sunday for Pfc. Thomas C. Fitzmaurice was changed from 4:00 in the afternoon to 9:45 a.m and were attended by a large congregation of relatives and friends.  The service was conducted by the Rev. R.W. Sachtjen, and his father, rev. Edward J. Sachtjen of Wis. Dells.  Special music was rendered by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Waters.  Representatives of the American Legion post and the Auxiliary unit attended in a body.  At the close of the church service Earl Martin, commander of the Legion post, presented an American flag to Mr. and Mrs. Fitzmaurice, and the bugle’s taps closed the memorial to this young man whose life was given on the battlefield.

 

Thomas Cecil Fitzmaurice was born to john and Anne Fitzmaurice on March 11, 1922, at Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.).  He lived hear Humbird until about the age of 18 years, when he went to Janesville, where he was employed until Nov. 2, 1942, when he entered the army.  He received his training in Louisa, Texas, and California, and then went overseas.  He went with his unit into Belgium about Christmastime of 1944, and on Jan. 16th, 1945, he died in action, at the age of 22 years, 10 months, and 5 days.  Thomas leaves to mourn, his parents, and five brothers: Cpl. Gerald, serving in England in the medical corps; Pvt. Philip, training in South Carolina; David and Jacob, near Janesville; and James at home.
