LeCaptain, Bernard "Bud" (1924? - 22? AUG 1944)

 

From last Friday’s Ladysmith News comes a report of the death in action in the south Pacific of "Bud LeCaptain, son of former Principal and Mrs. Herman LeCaptain.  The News stated:

 

"Bernard "Bud" LeCaptain, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman LeCaptain of Glen Flora, has been killed in action in the south Pacific.  His parents received a telegram from the war department carrying the message Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 23.

 

"Bernard, who attended the Glen Flora High School, had been in the service more than two years.  He enlisted in the naval reserve, but later transferred to the marines, and was serving with the marines when he met his death.

 

"Three other children of the LeCaptains are in the service.  They are Lyle, U.S. Army; Alf, Coastguard; and Miss Veda, a member of the WAVES.

 

"Other details could not be ascertained before the News went to Press."
