Vandehey, Arnold (6 AUG 1888 - 6 OCT 1960)

 

At 8:10 Thursday morning, Oct. 6, 1960, Arnold Vandehey passed away at his home at the Sunset Motel, city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), where he had been in failing health ever since undergoing major surgery in May.

 

A requiem mass was said at 9:30 Saturday morning at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, with Father H.L. Crubel officiating.  Friday evening a Rosary service was held at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home at 8:00 p.m. by Father Crubel and members of the Catholic Order of Foresters, of which he was a member at Thorp for 50 years, recited the Rosary at 9:00 p.m.

 

Serving as pallbearers at the final rites were Ray Ketterhagen, Ray Baldeswiler, John Maier, George Maier, Walter Verkuilen and Bill Micke.  His remains were place in their final resting place at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Stanley.

 

Kenneth Duss, a grandson of the deceased, who is a student at the La Crosse Seminary, led the prayer at the funeral home Saturday morning.

 

Arnold Vandehey was born Aug. 6, 1888 in Hollandtown, Wis., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Vandehey.  He was married to Cecelia Verweyst on Nov. 28, 1911.  Five children were born to this union.  His wife and one daughter have preceded him in death.

 

On Sept. 14, 1957 he was married to Mrs. Margaret Gruber Plummer in a services performed at St. Mary’s Church at Stanley.  On June 13, 1958 the couple purchased the Sunset Motel in Owen, where they have since resided.

 

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Margaret, and four children, one son, Donald of Eugene, Oregon; three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Marie) Koweiski, Auburndale, Mrs. William (Ethel) Kelly, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Fernonda (Romilda) Duss of Boyd; two step-children, Mrs. Dick (Harriet) Laube, Owen, and Donald Plummer of Stanley, and 27 grandchildren.

 

He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic parish, Owen, the Holy Name Society and the Foresters of Thorp.

 

Relatives and friends from away that attended the services came from Chicago, Milwaukee, Hollandtown, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Wittenberg, Exland, Stanley, Chippewa Falls and St. Paul, Minn.
