Karye, Shirley E. (11 JUN 1960)

Nolan Cramer, Waverly, Iowa, and Jack Gummerson, Owen, ushered wedding guests into Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday afternoon, June 11, 1960, to attend the 1:30 o’clock nuptial service, during which wedding vows were exchanged by Miss Shirley Ellen Karye, Wausau, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Karye, route 3, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), and Donald L. Cramer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cramer, route 1, Wausau.  The Rev. Carl Wilkman was the officiating clergyman.

Mr. Karye gave his only daughter in marriage during the service for which Miss Helen Wilkman was the organist.  Mrs. Kenneth Phillips, Withee, sang "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer."  Majestic daisies were used for altar trimming.

Proceeding down the aisle on a white carpet, the bride was seen wearing a pure white silk organza and roes point lace gown styled with scalloped Sabrina neckline embellished with glowing miniature pearls.  Traditional long tapered rose point lace sleeves, elongated fitted Basque, and a bouffant skirt with overskirt falling in a semi-redingote effect, and edged with scalloped rose point lace adorned with seed pearls.  The skirt ended in a chapel train, which was lace bordered.

A silk organza heart shaped plateau trimmed with seed pearls held her imported veil of English silk illusion.  She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses, white carnations and white stephanotis with garnet roses attached to white satin streamers.

Wearing floor length frocks of aqua nylon sheer over taffeta were the three bridal aides, Miss Betty Ericksmoen, La Crosse, the maid of honor, and Mrs. Kenneth Lang and Miss Barbara White, both of Wausau, the bridesmaids.  Their gowns had V-shaped necklines, brief sleeves and full skirts with appliqued flower design.  They wore headbands with face veils to match their ensembles and carried baskets of pink, yellow and white pompons.

Dr. Glen G. Cramer came from St. Paul, Minn. to serve as best man.  Groomsmen were Kenneth Lang, Wausau, and Ronald Mageland, La Crosse.

Immediately following the church ceremony a reception was held, after which supper was served at 4:30 o’clock.  The dance began at 9 o’clock at the Legion Hall in Owen.

The new Mrs. Cramer, a 1956 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, was employed by Employers Mutual Insurance Co., Wausau, where she and her husband will reside at 705 ½ S. Ninth Ave. following a northern Wisconsin honeymoon.  Her husband, who was graduated in 1957 from Wausau High School, is employed at France Sales and Service in Wausau.

Attending the wedding were guests from Withee, Thorp, Greenwood, La Crosse, Westby, Marathon, Wausau, Merrill, Antigo, Mosinee, Colby, Waukegan, Ill., Milwaukee, Ishpeming, Mich., Crosby, Minn., St. Paul, Waverly, Iowa, Ashland and Neenah.
