Schmocker, Charles (1 MAY 1882 - 19 JUN 1959)

Charles Schmocker, one of the pioneer residents of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), succumbed early Friday afternoon when he suffered a heart attack while resting on the back steps of his home.  He, however, had been in poor health for the past two years.

He came to Owen as a young man moving here from Batesville, Ind., where he was born on May 1, 1882.  On Nov. 4, 1906, he was united in marriage to Clara Carson in a wedding ceremony performed in Owen.  Lumbering was the principal industry in this community at the time.  For many years he served as foreman of the Owen Box and Crating Co., and later in the same capacity with Kidd & Company.  With the passing of the lumber industry he went into business for himself and for more than 15 years operated a service station on Highway 29 in the Fourth Ward of the city until his retirement several eyars ago.

He was an avid sportsman finding much recreation and relaxation in fishing and hunting.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home with the Very Rev. Gordon Brandt of Christ Cathedral of Eau Claire officiating.  Pallbearers were John Bacon, A.W. Gerhardt, Lyle Haas, Gust Braun, Julius Johnson and Charles Rahn.  In charge of the floral offerings were Mesdames S.E. Grimes, Howard Devine and Harold Kuehn.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

His passing is mourned by his wife, a daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and 21 nieces and nephews, and two sisters of Black River Falls.  One son, John, passed away in 1956.
