Nielsen, W. Clayton (Leaving - FEB 1959)

Pastor W. Clayton Nielsen, pastor of Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), will preach his farewell sermon this coming Sunday morning at 10:45.  On Sunday, March 1, he will be installed as pastor of Central Lutheran Church in Omaha, Neb.

Pastor Nielsen assumed the pastorate of Nazareth Lutheran Church at Withee and of Bethany at Wolter’s Corner on Aug. 1, 1950.  During the time he has served in the communion, the two congregations were united into one, the old parish hall was enlarged, remodeled and modernized, and the old church building was replaced by the new church building, which was dedicated in October.  The Sunday school and vacation school have almost doubled in size during the eight years, and the active membership of the congregation has also grown.

As yet, a successor has not accepted the congregation’s call to serve as pastor.  However, plans have been made for regular services during the vacancy.  For the first two months, former pastor Michael Mikkelsen will preach at most of the services, except for the second Sunday in each month, when the congregation will be served by one of the district pastors.

During the time they have been in the community, Pastor Nielsen and his wife have been active in civic and community affairs.  Mrs. Nielsen taught one year in the English department of the Owen-Withee Senior High School and Pastor Nielsen has been active in the Withee Lions Club and a member of the Withee Businessmen’s Association.  Their new address, beginning Feb. 26th, will be 730 South 50th St., Omaha, Neb., Central Lutheran Church is located at 819 South 22nd St., Omaha.
