Hughes, Bonnie Jean  (Marriage - 30 December 1961)

The marriage of Bonnie Jean Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hughes of the Town of Grant, and William Wayne Wagner, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wagner of Lynn, was solemnized in Zion Lutheran Church in Granton, at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Lawrence Schreiber officiated at a double ring ceremony.

Bonnie’s twin sister, Bettie, was maid of honor and her sister Mary, Jerri Woznak of St. Paul and Jan Benseman of Mequon, were bridesmaids. Robert Reimen of Madison, a fraternity brother, was best man; and Cliff Miller, also a fraternity brother, Tom Krueger of Madison and Dave Tjaden of Hendricks, Minn., were groomsmen.

The bride was given by her father, Donald Hughes, Mrs. Lawrence Schreiber played the wedding music and Carol West sang, "the Lord’s Prayer."  The church was decorated with poinsettias in keeping with the Christmas season.

The bride was attired in a gown of Peau de Soie. The carved Italian neckline was detained by Alencon lace and jewels which continued down the princess front.  A bustle and bow were centered at the back over a chapel train.

The fingertip veil of silk illusion was caught to a jeweled crown with scattered crystal teardrops. She carried red roses.

The bridesmaids wore forest green velveteen street-length dresses with bell skirts. They carried white muffs trimmed with holly.

The ushers were Delwin Ross of Madison, John Hughes, Jr., of Milwaukee, and Michael Haase of Neenah.

Following the service, a reception was held in the church dining hall attended by 175.  A wedding dance was held at Silver Dome in the evening.

After February 1, the newly weds will be at home at Fort Rucker, Ala.

The bride has returned to her studies at the University of Wisconsin, where she will complete the semester in Mid-January. She was graduated from Neillsville High School in 1959. She plans to join her husband in Alabama this month.

The groom is a graduate of Granton High School and from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he majored in business administration. He holds a lieutenant’s commission in the army and is a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Out of town guests attending the wedding were from Milwaukee, Neenah, Madison, Chippewa Falls, Mequon, Marshfield, Neillsville, And Tyler and Hendricks, Minn.
