Larsen, Forest "Forie" (12 March 1936 - 3 April 2011)

Forest "Forie" Larsen, 74 (75), passed away at his home April 3, 2011, after a long fight with cancer.

Forest was born March 12, 1936, to Gerelda and Ingvart Larsen.  He married his wife, Angie (Angeline Kessler), Oct. 20, 1959.

Forie went to school in Neillsville and entered the Army after his graduation in 1954.  He was a member of the first guided missile division to be deployed to Germany during the Korean conflict.

On his return home from the service Forie took ownership of the Green Lantern Tavern in Neillsville and operated it for 20 years.  He then worked for the Clark County Highway Department for 25 years. Forie was a member of the Neillsville Moose Lodge, Neillsville Fire Department, Neillsville Motorcycle club, Black River Motorcycle club and the Winnebago Touring club.

Forie was an avid sportsman with a love for hunting, fishing, and caring for his two beloved Weimaraner dogs.  He also had a great love of motorcycles. Forie was the Wisconsin State Hill Climb Champion and raced on flat track and dirt track motorcycles for many years.  His Harley-Davidson motorcycle was his pride and joy. Forie also loved spending time in his garage fixing things for himself and others, riding his motorcycle and spending time at the "forty" in the cabin writing letters and cutting wood.

Forest is survived by his wife Angie; children, Michael of La Cross, Holly (Ron) Gunderson, Wautoma, John (Alison Montieth) El Granada, CA, and Joel (Tanya), River Falls; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Deon (Jim) Spangler.

Forie was preceded in death by his mother Gerelda, his father Ingvart and his brother Brad Larsen.

A memorial for Forest will be at a later date. The family asks that any memorials be given to cancer research, House of the Dove, or Hospice in his honor.
