Steinmetz, Kevin J. (February 29, 1952 - January 20, 2011)

 

Kevin J. Steinmetz, age 58, of Colby passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 25, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby with Father Dan Hackel officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Colby. Visitation will be on Monday, January 24, 2011, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 9 a.m. till time of services. Pallbearers will be Phil Huber, Mike Spuhler, Randy Tesmer, Dave Strathman, Bob Trimble and Denny Westphal.


Kevin was born on February 29, 1952, in Stanley to Marvin and Roselyn (Janssen) Steinmetz. He attended Colby Elementary School and was a 1970 graduate of Colby High School. He attended Chippewa Valley Technical College and received an associate degree in carpentry, after which he worked for Utke Brothers Construction in Curtiss and Rannow Cabinet and Supply in Colby, until they sold the business to CRC Lumber, at this time he went in business on his own doing carpentry work and cabinet making.


Kevin was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, past president of the Colby Chamber of Commerce, past co-chairman and chairman of Colby Cheese Days, 1992 Colby Citizen of the Year, instructor for ATV safety classes, past president of the North Central Wisconsin Car Club, past member of the Colby Fire Department and past member of the Taylor County Sportsmens Club. He enjoyed tending bar at the VFW Club in Colby, the Skylite Supper Club Athens, and Wayside II in Curtiss. Kevin looked forward to delivering flowers on Valentines Day and Mothers Day for the Rose Floral in Colby.


Kevin is survived by his father, Marvin Steinmetz of Curtiss, companion, Sherry Hoffman of Athens; siblings, Brian (Sheila) Steinmetz of Dorchester, Karen Hawk of Marshfield, Kerry (Cathy) Steinmetz of Marshfield, Kay Steinmetz of Syracuse, NY and Kim (Gary) Decker of Dorchester; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Roselyn, on July 14, 2009.
