Thorp Finance Scholarship (NHS Senior Wins - 1961)

Susan Darling, Neillsville High School senior, has been named a zone winner in the fourth annual Thorp Finance Foundation scholarship competition.  She will receive a $25 United States Savings Bond.  The announcement was made by John W. Reynolds, Thorp branch manager in Neillsville.

The essay contest, which was open to more than 39,000 Wisconsin high school seniors, offers two top prizes of $1,000 scholarships to any one of the colleges or universities in the state accredited by the North Central Association of colleges and secondary schools.  The winners will be announced on April 17, according to Foundation President, Francis J. Conway.

Susan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Darling. The family lives at 121 Grand Ave.

Commenting on the scholarship program, Conway said: "The annual Thorp foundation scholarship program is a logical product of our corporation’s interest in serving Wisconsin. We are pleased that we can help assist in furthering the education of deserving young people of our state."
