Flynn, James (7 January 1868 - 30 June 1954)

 

James Flynn, 86, of Owen died Wednesday afternoon, June 30, at Stanley Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted earlier that same day.  His death was due to cancer.

 

His body was taken to the Griebnow Funeral Home at Owen where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 3, Rev. Wegner officiating. Burial took place in the Riverside Cemetery.

 

James Flynn, the son of John and Margaret Flynn, was born January 7, 1868 near Durand, Ill., where he spent his boyhood.   When he was 17 years old he came to Wisconsin and later to Clark County where he met Eliza McKenzie whom he married on April 14, 1888 in Greenwood.

 

He worked in the woods and built roads and farmed for many years near Loyal and Greenwood, but the last 33 years were spent on farms near Owen.  He was unable to work for several years on account of failing health.

 

Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. James (Alta) Harper of California, Mrs. Theo. (Lulu) Buker of Loyal, and one son Roy.  Also four grandsons: Shirley and Walter Rusch, both of Thorp, Ray Harper of California and Pvt. James Buker of Fort Lewis, Wash.; 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

 

One daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Alma) Rusch passed away in 1933 and his wife died in February of this year.  His brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.

 

Pallbearers were Leland Hardrath, Ervin Zelm, Dave Churkey, Lewis Gehrke, Viggo and Kristian Rassmussen all of Owen.

 

Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Lewis Gehrke, Mrs. Viggo Rasmussen and Miss Lillian Salo also of Owen.

 

Relatives and friends attending were from Thorp, Loyal, Greenwood, Owen and Alma Center. A daughter, Mrs. James (Alta) Harper of California, was unable to attend.
