Robertson, William Jr. (18 October 1929 - 7 April 2003) With flag

 

William Robertson, Jr., age 73, of Thorp, died on Monday, April 7, 2003 at Victory Medical Center in Stanley.

 

Funeral services were held at !1:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jeff Shearier officiated and burial followed in East Thorp Cemetery.  Pallbearers were: Paul Antczak, Mike Kolinski, David Antczak, Paul Antczak, Jr., Scott M. Robertson and William R. Robertson, III.

 

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 10, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home and also Friday 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home.

 

William Robertson, Jr. was born on October 18, 1929, in Chicago, the son of William Sr. and Jean (Moffott) Robertson.  He was raised and educated in Chicago, graduating from Chicago Vocational High School.  Bill was drafted into the U. S. Army on May 29, 1951, and served during the Korean Conflict, with his twin brother Alex.

 

After his honorable discharge on February 28, 1953, he returned to Chicago and worked at Wrigley’s for a short time before becoming employed at Chicago Transit Authority.  Bill was united in marriage to Doris Emmett on July 9, 1977.  He retired from Chicago Transit Authority, in 1992, as a bus supervisor.  Bill then moved to Thorp, where he resided until the time of his death.

 

Bill as a member of the Thorp American Legion Post #118, 40 & 8 Group, and had many interests, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family, including his granddaughter Troi Doris Hanna; attending Legion and 40 & 8 meetings, sports, movies, dining out and traveling.

 

He will be sadly missed by his wife Doris of Thorp; his son William (Maredith) of Chicago; step-children: Linda Hanna of Thorp; David Antczak and Paul Antczak of Chicago, Maria Antczak of La Grange, IL, Michael Kolinski of Chicago, Tracy (Larry) Clody of California; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a special niece and nephew: Jeanellen Sims and Bob Parker and his pal, Bill Kopping of Chicago.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Jean Dawson, Isabel Dombrowe and Bess Parker; and one brother Alexander.
