Lyon, Virginia Mae #2 (24 MAY 1928 - 19 NOV 1952)

Mrs. Melvin Lyon, 24, a resident of this area until a month ago, died last Wednesday in a hospital in Globe, Ariz.

The young woman, accompanied by her husband and daughter, Sandra, 3, left here in October for Arizona because of her health.

She had been ill for several months with a heart disease, brought on by an attack of rheumatic fever several years ago.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood.

The Rev. Magnus Egge officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the service the choir sang "Rock of Ages," accompanied by Mrs. Don Warner on the organ.

The pallbearers were: Earl Caliebe, Wilbur Kehrberg, Art Strey, Glenn Henninger, Bernard Clouse, and Louis Edwards.

Mrs. Lyon, the former Virginia Mae Erickson, was born in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), May 24, 1928.  She and Melvin Lyon were married in Greenwood Dec. 14, 1944.

They lived on a farm near Loyal until about three months ago when they sold it and purchased a house trailer in anticipation of the Arizona trip.  They remained in Greenwood until they left.

Two of their children, Sonja, 7, and Rodney, 7 months, remained with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Erickson, Greenwood.  Another son, Glenn, 2, stayed with Lyon’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Lyon, Loyal.

The only other survivor, a brother, Burnell, lives in Madison.  Three sisters and two brothers died in infancy.
