Ayers, Joan D. (1 JUL 1952)

Joan Dolores Ayers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude G. Ayers, Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), was united in marriage to Robert Richard Bertz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Bertz, at a nuptial ceremony performed by Father Norbert King at St. Anthony’s Tuesday morning.

The bride was presented by her father for the double ring ceremony.  She wore a chapel length gown of white satin with tiered nylon tulle and lace overskirt.  The bodice was of fitted embroidered nylon lace with buttons down the back.  The gown’s long pointed sleeves were edged with ruffle.  An heirloom crown of orange blossoms which her great- grandmother, Mrs. Mary A. Korman wore 72 years ago, was her headpiece.  She carried a colonial bouquet of yellow roses and stephanotis.

A sister of the bride, Miss Charlotte Ayers of Neillsville was maid of honor.  She was dressed in a yellow frosted organdy gown over white taffeta with puffed sleeves designed similarly to the bride’s.  She also carried a colonial bouquet of flowers in pastel shades.

Miss Joann Bertz, sister of the groom, served as bridesmaid.  Her gown was of blue frosted organdy over white taffeta with details similar to the bride’s.  The girls wore gloves and picture hats to match their dresses.

Wayne Kronberger, Neillsville, a friend of the groom, served as best man, while John R. Bertz, cousin of the groom, served as groomsman.  Brothers of the bride, Wendell and Melvin Ayers, served as ushers.

Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was held at the home of the bride’s parents for the immediate families.

The bride was a graduate of Neillsville High School class of ’49 and has since been employed as dental assistant in the office of Dr. C. N. Shield.

The groom graduated in ’44 from Loyal High School and has been engaged in farming since then.

The mother of the bride attended the ceremony in a lavender and gray Bamberg dress, while the mother of the groom wore a navy and white silk dress.  Each wore a corsage of gloriosas.

After a honeymoon in Canada the couple will reside at their farm home near Loyal.
