Miller, Vess R. (6 August 1917 - 4 April 1960)

Pallbearers at the service of Vess R. Miller, 42-year-old retired army officer held in Granton, April 6, were regular army men from Camp McCoy: M/Sgt. Michael Alcantora, M/Sgt. Walter Zabrowski, Sgts. 1/c John J. Donnelly, Samuel Tackett, Darwin D. Shutt and James B. Pritt.

Miller, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira E. Miller of Granton, died unexpectedly April 4 in Stevens Point.  Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Granton, with the Rev. Virgil Holmes in charge. Graveside rites were conducted in Manitowoc by the V. F. W. post there.

Mr. Miller was born August 6, 1917, in Beulah, N. D.  He served with the army from 1934 to 1937; and reentered in 1943 and served until his retirement.  He held a captaincy rating.

He was married to Vlasta Cherney, a native of Manitowoc, July 20, 1940, in Pascagoula, Miss.

Surviving besides his parents, and his wife are a son, Patrick; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Howard Young of Jackson, Ky.; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Guy of Granton and Mrs. Everett Meek of Nashua, Mont.; and four brothers, Douglas of Chicago, David of Milwaukee, Ira, Jr., of Kansas City, Mo., and Richard of Anchorage, Alaska.
