Tompkins, Earl D. (7 April 1885 - 3 December 1959)

 

Funeral services were held Monday from the Georgas Funeral Home for Earl D. Tompkins, 74, of Neillsville, who died here Thursday following a long illness.  The Rev. Frank B. Harcey, pastor of the United Church, officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

 

Mr. Tompkins, a well known farmer and livestock dealer, was born April 7, 1885, in the Town of Eaton.  He was the son of the late James and Frankann (Raymond) Tompkins.  He operated the home farm for many years before ill health forced his retirement.  The family moved into their home on State Street 12 years ago.

 

He was married December 28, 1911, in Marshfield to the former Hilda Bredesen of the Greenwood area.

 

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Lorraine, at home; and a son Nyle of Osseo; and 10 grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were: Alvin Ehlers, Viv Carteron, Arthur Syth, Leo Stanley, Hugh Christie and Lawrence Johnson.

 

Two hymns, "Softly and Tenderly" and "In the Garden" were sung by Wilfred Galstad, accompanied by Miss Kathleen Galstad. 

 

Out of Town people here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Nyle Tompkins and family, Osseo; Ray Fradette, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Fabian, Granton;  Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ehlers, Mr. and Mrs. Viv Carteron, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson; Arthur Syth, Leo Stanley, Hugh Christie, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Minsaas, Mrs. Eli Heck, Mrs. Ervin Heck, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Heck, Mrs. Emma Johnson, Mrs. Melvin Fegre, Archie Johnstone, Del Johnson, Lawrence Larson, all of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Syth, Jim Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Christie, Loyal.
