Kafka, Caroline G. (14 JAN 1917 - 10 OCT 2010)

 

OWEN --Caroline G. Kafka, 93, of Colby formerly of Withee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at the Marywood Convalescent Center in Wausau.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. Father S. Nathan will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Withee.

 

Caroline was born Jan. 14, 1917, in Antigo to Patrick and Mollie (nee Brill) Mullen. She graduated from Antigo High School in 1937 and went on to attend Whitewater University. She began her career in Wausau as an administrative assistant at Employer's Mutual Insurance Company.

 

She was married to Theodore (Ted) Kafka on Feb. 14, 1944. After moving to the Owen-Withee area and raising a family, she took a position as a bookkeeper at Griebenow and Co. in Owen. She retained this position as the business transitioned to become Hughes Store and later Dan's Department Store. She retired in 1985.

 

During the course of her life, Caroline was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a member of Saint Rose Circle of the Holy Rosary Alter Society. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, needlework and playing bridge.

 

Caroline is survived by sons, Patrick (Ellen) Kafka of Mosinee and Robert Kafka of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Eric (Gretchen) Kafka of Hailey, Idaho, Mollie Kafka of Glendale and Joseph Kafka of Boise, Idaho.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; parents, Patrick and Mollie Mullen; sisters, Margaret Mullen and Catherine Mullen; brother, Joe Mullen; and son, Edward, in infancy.

 

Caroline's family would like to thank the staff of the Marywood Convalescent Center and the Colby Retirement Community for the wonderful care she received while she was a resident there.
