Newton, Nellie (4 November 1881 - 6 March 1959)

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie (Jones) Newton were held Tuesday afternoon from the Alma Center Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Isler, pastor, officiating.  Burial was made in the Alma Center Community Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Newton, who had been making her home with her son-in-;aw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Tichy, northeast of Christie, died Friday evening in Neillsville, where she had been moved that afternoon. She had been ill for many months, and in the past weeks also had been a patient in a Black River Falls hospital.

 

Nellie Jones was born in Cambria, Minn., November 4, 1881.  She spent her early years in Minnesota and married Fred Newton November 9, 1907.  The Newton’s lived several years in Minnesota and North Dakota.  Mr. Newton was a teacher for many years.

 

In 1918 they came to Wisconsin and located at Humbird, where they lived for several years before moving to Alma Center, where they made their home until his death in 1947.  During the last 11 years, Mrs. Newton had lived with her children in Alma Center, Christie and in Illinois.

 

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Newton, all of whom are living; Willard of Alma Center; Ellsworth of Libertyville, Ill.; Mrs. Stephen (Margaret) Tichy of Christie; Kenneth of Hemet, Calif.; and George of Alma Center.

 

Mrs. Newton also has a brother and two sisters surviving, Arthur Jones, Mrs. Emma Edwards and Mrs. Hazel Roberts, all of Mankato, Minn.

 

Immediate relatives attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Tichy and three children of Christie, Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Newton and daughter of Libertyville, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Willard Newton and three children and Mr. and Mrs. George Newton and two children of Alma Center.
