Mary Elizabeth Smoczyk was born on August 15, 1942 in the Town of Thorp, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Mendalski) Smoczyk.  She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1960.  After high school, Mary moved to the Chicago area where she babysat for relatives.  She later worked for Zayre’s Department Store as a security guard for several years.  Mary was united in marriage to William Kirschner on November 15, 1975 in Chicago. They moved back to Thorp in 1981, where they resided until moving to Stanley in April of 1995.  Mary’s husband passed away on July 30, 1995.  She continued to reside in Stanley until entering Oakbrook Nursing & Rehab in May of 2010.

Mary had many interests, but especially loved gardening, cooking, canning, crocheting and playing cards.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Theresa (Jeremiah) Taylor of Stanley; two grandchildren: Tyler Palmer and Adrian Taylor; one sister, Rose Meyer of Stanley; three brothers: Ed Smoczyk of Arcadia, Leon Smoczyk of Chippewa Falls and Henry Smoczyk of Thorp; nieces, nephews and friends.
