Mueller, Betty Lou (3 Apr. 1935 - 18 Nov. 1960)

Funeral services for Mrs. Robert Mueller, 25, who was killed when the car she was driving ran into the died of a Soo Line locomotive, near Chili Nov. 18, were held Monday afternoon, at 2 o’clock at Christ Lutheran church.

The Rev. F. H. Sprengler officiated at the rites attended by many relatives and friends. Herbert Juneau was organist and Miss Dorothy Kieser sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Asleep in Jesus."

Pallbearers were Mel Atzen, Ronald Graffunder, Walter Graffunder, Jack Kelsey, Orville Lieders Jr., and John Lindberg.

The flowers were carried by the wives of the pallbearers.

Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery.

The fatal accident occurred about 3:40 Friday afternoon, six miles west of Marshfield on County Trunk V, when Mrs. Mueller, driving south, was enroute to a weekend with Mrs. Lamar Schmitz and family while their husbands were deer hunting together.

The train, comprised of two diesel engines and about a dozen freight cars, was headed east on the Loyal-Greenwood branch of the Soo Line.

Investigating authorities said the car’s power brakes evidently failed as the minor skid marks made by the car’s left rear wheel.

With Mrs. Mueller were three of their sons, Michael, Wesley and Rodney. The boys were taken to St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, and emergency surgery was performed on Rodney, who suffered skull fractures and a broken collar bone.

Wesley sustained a fractured rib and is unable to walk, and Michael received a broken shoulder and head injuries. The oldest boy, Jeffrey, had remained here with his grand parents.

Mrs. Mueller was born Betty Lou Oehler, Apr. 3, 1935, at Park Falls. She received her education there and at Wisconsin State College, Eau Claire.

Her marriage to Robert Mueller took place at Abbotsford Dec. 15, 1954.

She is survived by her husband and four sons, Jeffrey 5, Michael 4, Wesley 3, and Rodney 2; her parents and a brother, Donald, all of Abbotsford.

Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral came from La Crosse, Milwaukee, Marshfield, Jefferson, Blanchville, Eau Claire, Owen, Withee, Medford, Dorchester, Park Falls, Butternut, Monroe, Stevens Point, New Richmond, Colby, Merrill, Loyal, Ladysmith, Ogema, Stetsonville, Catawba, Fifield, Mayville, Appleton, Spencer, Lindsey, Farmington, Minn., and Macomb, Ill.
