Hicks, Bernice A. "Babe" (20 September 1923 - 19 July 2010)

 

Bernice A. "Babe" Hicks, age 86, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010, at Glenhaven Care Center in Glenwood City, WI.

 

Babe was born on September 20, 1923, in Thorp, WI, to Nick and Mary (Dulek) Benzschawel. She attended school in Thorp and had been a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church until she left Thorp in 1965.

 

Babe married Robert Soeller in Thorp and they had three daughters, Darlene, Marlene and Geraldine. Bob preceded her in death in 1964.

 

She married Henry P. Hicks in 1966.  They spent many years living in California and then, upon Henry’s retirement, lived in many states, settling for good in Wisconsin.  Babe enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling and travel. Cooking was also her specialty.

 

Babe is survived by her husband, Henry of Boyceville; her daughters: Darlene (Bob) Olocki, Marlene Ulberg, Geraldine (Christ) Bowles and Vickie (Larry) Moskiewicz; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and even some great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Celia Moskiewicz.

 

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband; two sisters: Ann Benzschawel and Marie Ebben; one brother, Mathew; and most of her cousins and friends.

 

A memorial service was held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at The Olson Funeral Home, Menomonie, WI, with Deacon Wes Tuttle officiating.
