Kilday, Dorothy (25 September 1920 - 7 August 2010)

Dorothy (Mott) Anderson Kilday, 89, died suddenly Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, ending her stay with the people she loved.

Born Sept. 25, 1920, in Neillsville to George and Beda (Hasselquist) Mott, Dorothy grew up on a farm in Clark County with five siblings, providing the foundation for the country life she enjoyed.

After initial studies at the County Normal School in Neillsville, Dorothy earned degrees in education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and University of Colorado-Boulder. She worked with children teaching and counseling for most of her working years, and as a reporter for the Sheboygan Press during her years residing in Chilton.  Dorothy also lived in Aurora, IL, Beaver Dam and Rio, WI.

Dorothy’s favorite time was spent with her children and their families, Rock (Sherrill) of Chilton, and their daughter Meryl of Appleton; Court (Debra) and their children, Laura and Ryan of Brookfield, all who survive her. She is further survived by her husband for the last 24 years, Gordon Kilday of Fitchburg; two sisters, Irma Zoschke of Rockford, IL, and Alice Barrette of Neillsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother who died at birth; her other brothers, Alvin and Richard "Harvey," and sister Evelyn Kluever.

Laughter was her companion in a life surrounded by all that nature provided. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided to Dorothy and Gordon by her caretaker, Oyuna, prior to her death.

A memorial service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held for the family and friends at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at the Gunderson Funeral Home, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, WI, 53711.

Memorials can be made in Dorothy’s name to Hospice Care, Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
