Hakola, Otto & Jenny (50th - 24 AUG 1957)

 

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hakola were honored at a golden wedding celebration on the spacious lawn of their rural home Sunday afternoon.  The audience sang many songs in both languages.  Rev. John F. Saarinen led the devotions and spoke, Mr. Carl Hill spoke, Mrs. John F. Saarinen read the history and spoke in both languages.

 

Mrs. Hakola was presented with a beautiful corsage in gold and yellow and Mr. Hakola a boutonniere of yellow.  Mr. Otto Hakola was born in Finland, came to America to Sparta, Minn., in 1902; moved to Republic, Mich., in 1903; visited Finland in 1905.  Miss Jenny Mattson and Otto Hakola were married in Republic, Mich., Aug. 24, 1907, by the Rev. Heikks, father-in-law of Dr. John Wargelin, president of Ermeritus of the Suomi Synod.  Mrs. Otto Hakola was also born in Finland but came to this country with her parents at the age of six years.  She attended public school in Republic, Mich.

 

To this union have been born five boys, Everett, George, Arthur, Walfred and Clifford.  The family moved to their present home 42 years ago from Republic, Mich.  It is a home of many friends and warm hospitality, both Mr. and Mrs. Hakola are pioneer members of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Owen.

 

Mr. Hakola has held many responsible offices both in the congregation and the parish at large.  Mrs. Hakola is the treasurer of the Ladies Aid which office she has held for about fifteen years.  We commend them for their regular attendance in the worship services of the congregation from a distance of 12 miles.  A delicious luncheon was served by the daughter-in-law and the sisters-in-law, to a host of relatives and friends.  Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hakola, Bloomington, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. George Hakola and son and daughter, Whitehall, Mont; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hakola, son and daughter of Loyal; Walfred and Clifford at home are the children of their families present; also Mrs. Hakola’s brothers and their families.

 

Mr. and Mrs. John Mattson, their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Judice, son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Mattson and their daughter, Mrs. Carl Maki, all of Palmer, Mich.  Mrs. Ellen Leverty, son and daughter accompanied the Everett Hakolas from Bloomington, Calif.  Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hakola received many congratulatory cards, gifts and flowers.  The four-tiered wedding cake decorated the table.  Mr. Hakola expressed their heartfelt thanks in a short speech.  Everyone had a wonderful afternoon.  The Westboro friends came in the evening.
