Brooks, Jane (Mrs. Alonzo) #2 (2 Oct 1833 - 23 May 1913)

Mrs. Alonzo Brooks died at her home in this city last Friday.  She was one of the early settlers of Clark County and known to a wide circle of the earlier comers of Neillsville.  She was born Jane E. Coif in Genesseo County, New York, on Oct. 2, 1833.  She moved with her parents to Ohio and on June 24, 1854, was united in marriage to Alonzo Brooks.  They settled in Carroll County, Ill., in 1855 and on Jan. 1, 1860, they came to Clark County and located on the farm near Lynn which was for many years their home.  In 1890 they came to Neillsville to spend their declining years and on April 28, 1910, the union was broken by the death of Mr. Brooks.  Since the death of her husband Mrs. Brooks continued to make her home here and also spent considerable of the time with her sons at Lynn.  She was the mother of three children, two sons and one daughter, and the sons, George and Charles, still survive her, the daughter having died in 1881.

Mrs. Brooks was a lady of intelligence and refinement coupled with an inherent energy and stamina which made her early life here one of profit and pleasure.  She was beloved by all who knew her and her death is sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends here and at Lynn.

The funeral was held at the house last Saturday afternoon, Rev Prescott officiating, and interment was made at the Lynn Cemetery.
