Deitrich, Christian (19 May 1829 - 2 Mar 1913)

Saturday morning Christian Deitrich, who lives east of the city, suffered an accident which resulted in his death Sunday morning.  Mr. Deitrich is an aged man, 83 years of age, and had kindled a fire in his room when he went to bed Friday night.  Some time in the early morning his bed clothing caught fire from the stove and when the rest of the family had been awakened, the old gentleman had been quite badly burned.  One side of his body was burned from his shoulders to his feet, and the mattress and bedding of his bed was also burned on the side nearest the stove.  Mr. Deitrich was given all the attention and care possible but he died Sunday morning, his age being against his recovery.

Mr. Deitrich was born in Germany and was aged 83 years, 9 months and 13 days.  He was united in marriage to Julia Rausch on April 6, 1859, and to this union five children were born.  Mr. and Mrs. Deitrich came to this country shortly after their marriage and within a few years located in the woods in Clark county on the farm which has ever since been their home.  Mrs. Deitrich died two years ago.  Mr. Deitrich was a fine gentleman, one whose long residence in this county as a pioneer had given him excellent opportunities to demonstrate the sterling qualities which made him so many friends.  He is survived by his sons, Charles, John, Henry, Ernest and Fred.
