Pvt. Harvey W. Raasch, Co. C. 92nd Armored Infantry battalion, was chosen to be orderly for Maj. Gen. Frank O. Bowman, commanding general Sixth Armored Division at Ft. Leonard Wood.

 

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Raasch, RR2, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.); 19 years old, four months Army service, former student at Owen High School, amateur (H.S.) football and Golden Gloves boxing.

 

Following his selection he was presented with a certificate which stated: "Be It Known By all, that Pvt. Harvey W. Raasch has been selected as the outstanding Private of the Guard in the 6th Armored Division, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and has been given the honor of performing the duties of General’s Orderly.

 

The outstanding qualities of military bearing, appearance, and military knowledge demonstrated by Pvt. Raasch reflects great credit on himself and his organization."

 

The certificate was signed by Gen. Frank O. Bowman.

 

A general’s Orderly is selected each day from nominees of each of the five major training commands on post.

 

Duties of the General’s Orderly include"

 

a.       Being flag bearer for the commanding general at ceremonies and reviews.

 

b.      Acting as personal messenger for the commanding general.

 

c.       Accompanying the commanding general on training inspections and other activities that appear on the schedule for the day.

 

d.      Other tasks designated by the commanding general or his Aide-de-Camp.

 

*Soldier selected as General’s Orderly are usually awarded a special weekend pass between Friday evening and Sunday evening.
