Horn, Philip (04 APR 1866-? JULY 1947)

 

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, July 20, for Philip F. Horn, 81,  of the town of Sherman, who passed away at 9:15 p.m. the previous Wednesday at the farm home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Peterson. The Rev. Lee Holmes was in charge of the 1:30 p.m. service at the Swarthout funeral home and of the 2 0’clock service in the Veefkind cemetery.

 

Mr. Horn was born on Apr. 4, 1866, at Helenville. He homesteaded in South Dakota and farmed there for 15 years. On July 4, 1890, he was married at Mount Vernon, S. D., to Josephine Nelson. The family moved to Wisconsin in 1903, locating in the town of Sherman, where they have since resided.

 

Mr. Horn has been in poor health for the past five years and was confined to his bed for 21 months. His wife died in 1913, and his 10 brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.

 

Surviving are two sons, Elmer of Chili and Gilbert of Lake Geneva, and four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Esther) Peterson and Miss Laura Horn of Spencer, Miss Irene Horn of San Francisco, Cal., and Miss Rose Horn of Janesville. There are six grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were Aldus Gifford, Ed Stevens, Lowell Schultz, John Bymers, Chauncy Stevens and August Mueller. Flowers were carried by Fern and Sylvia Horn, Betty Fisher, Margaret Peterson, and Norma and Janice Schaumacher.

 

A quartette, Mrs. F. Farnsworth, Mrs. Lowell Schultz, the Rev. M. C. Gilbert and Lawrence Schultz, sang "Nearer My God to Thee," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Mrs. Aldus Gifford was organist.

 

Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral were: Miss Rose Horn of Janesville, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Horn and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heggestead and family, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schaumacher and family, all of Edgerton, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bushon of Chili.
