Kempin, Bertha (5 July 1871 - 18 October 1958)

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday from Christ Lutheran Church in Chili, for Mrs. Bertha Kempin, 87, who died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Krause of Granton.  The Rev. L. E. Schreiber officiated and burial was made in the Yolo Cemetery.

Mrs. Kempin, the former Bertha Viebranz, was born July 5, 1871, in Retzin Kreis, Belgrade, Germany and received her education there.  She came to the United States as a young girl and settled in the Chili community.  On January 27, 1892, she was married to August Kempin at Chili. They farmed until 1916, when they retired and moved into Chili, where she resided for the last 42 years.

She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Chili and of the Ladies Aid Society.

Mrs. Kempin is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Anna) Krause of Granton, and Mrs. O. E. (Aneta) Rathbun, Pomona, Cal.; and a son, Alfred Kempin, Marshfield.  Three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

The Gilbertson Funeral Home made funeral arrangements.
