Bacon, Chris (9 APR 1880 - 19 FEB 1955)

 

Chris Bacon, 74, and a resident of the City of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 43 years, succumbed to a lingering illness of multiple sclerosis at his home early Saturday morning.

 

Funeral services were conducted from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home at two o’clock Monday afternoon with Rev. John Saarinen, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, owen, officiating.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Serving as pallbearers were his three sons, Royal, Roland and John, two sons-in-law, Ernest Petke and Harold Redmond, and Dan Moore, a nephew.

 

Chris Bacon was born on April 9, 1880, in Richland County, Wis., spending his boyhood days near Five Points.  When a young man he moved with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Chris Bacon, Sr., to Jump River where he made his home until the summer of 1911.

 

On the 31st of August of that year he was united in marriage to Mabel Hutchinson in a ceremony performed at Medford, Wis.  After their marriage the couple moved to Owen where they have since resided.  Mr. Bacon first worked as a carpenter and alter went into the contracting business, enjoying its success until his retirement was forced upon him by failing eyesight.

 

During these past several years while he was confined to his home by illness he found much comfort in the care and respect of his family and of reminiscing of the past when he enjoyed so many relaxing and comforting hours with friends sharing his hobbies of fishing and hunting.

 

While still physically capable and active he gave unstingily of his of his time to community and civic promotions and served for eight years as the third ward’s representative on the common council.

 

He is survived by his wife, three sons, Royal, Monroe, Wis., Roland of Flint, Mich., and John of Owen; three daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Ruth) Petke, Johnson Creek, Wis., Mrs. Harold (Mary) Redmond, Gurney, Ill., and Mrs. Henry (Marny Lou) Olesky, Hartford, Conn., one brother, Cornelius of Owen and two sisters, Nora and Clara, both residents of Washington state.

 

Four sisters and two brothers have preceded him in death.
