Barr, Sandra J. (Marriage - 6 July 1957)

The First Methodist Church of Neillsville was the scene of the marriage on Saturday, July 6, of Miss Sandra J. Barr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barr of Neillsville, and Robert Stigen of Greenwood. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nordahl Stigen of Route 1, Greenwood.

The double ring ceremony was performed at 3 o’clock in the afternoon by the pastor, the Rev. Virgil Holmes, before the altar decorated with white candelabra and baskets of white gladioli, blue painted daisies and spirea sorbifolia.  About 200 guests were present.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was attired in a waltz length gown of French imported rose-point lace and nylon tulle over slipper satin.  It was fashioned with a fitted bodice and a Sabrina neckline.  The long fitted sleeves of lace came to a point at the hands. The bouffant, tiered skirt was trimmed with lace point inserts. She wore a finger tip veil of imported illusion lace caught to a princess crown of lace and illusion and pearl trimmed. Her flowers were an airy bouquet of a white orchid surrounded by stephanotis.

Attending the bride were her sister, Miss Carol Barr, as maid of honor, and a sister of the groom, Mrs. Robert Gress, as bridesmaid. They were both attired in identical gowns of blue with blue head bands, and each carried a lace basket of blue daisies and pink sweetheart roses.  Little Miss Christy Ann Gross, a cousin of the bride as flower girl, wore a long dress of white and carried a miniature basket like those of the attendants.

The groom’s attendants were Tom Barr, brother of the bride, and Robert Gress, brother-in-law.  Robert Baird and Howard Schultz of Greenwood were ushers.  Kenneth Steiger of Greenwood sang, "Because" and "I Love You Truly," accompanied by Mrs. Iris Randall at the organ.

Table bouquets were used for the reception for 150 guests in the church parlors.

The couple left on a trip to Michigan, and on their return will reside for the present at the home of the bride’s parents.  The bride is a Neillsville High School graduate, and since her graduation has been employed as a receptionist in the office of Dr. M. A. Foster.  She will continue her work there.  The groom is employed by The Wuethrich Creamery Company of Greenwood.  He served four years in the army, two of which were in Japan.

Guests were present from Wisconsin Rapids, Stanley, Greenwood, Eau Claire, Loyal, Milwaukee and Madison in Wisconsin; from Faribault, Minn., and points beyond in Illinois.
