Olson, Janet Claire (Marriage - 19 June 1957)

Miss Janet Claire Olson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William A. Olson of Greenwood, became the bride of Richard Humphrey Van Gorden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie H. Van Gorden of Neillsville, Wis., and Jupiter, Fla., at ceremonies in Grace Methodist Church at Greenwood Wednesday night, June 19.

The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Ethel Nulton before an altar decorated with candelabra and baskets of iris.  Only close relatives were present.

The bride was given in marriage by her father.  Her wedding gown was of candle-bright satin, with fitted lace bodice and Sabrina neckline.  A floor length chapel train and fingertip veil of silk illusion completed her ensemble.  She carried a bouquet of white tea roses and stephanotis.

Marton of honor was the groom’s sister, Mrs. Robert Dierauer of Minneapolis.

Kenneth Fremstad of Stanley, a cousin of the groom, served as bestman.  Ushers were Dr. John P. Olson of Rochester, N. Y. brother of the bride; and Heron Van Gorden of Neillsville, brother of the groom.  Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Lillian Warner of Greenwood.

A reception was held following the ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents.

The young couple left for a short honeymoon trip into southern Michigan. They are now making their home at 301 East First Street Neillsville.

The bride is a graduate of Greenwood High School, attended the University of Wisconsin, and has been employed as an x-ray technician in Rochester, N. Y.  The groom attended St. John’s Military Academy, and served with the ski-troopers of the United States Army in Italy during the war.  He is a graduate of Neillsville High school and is a partner with his uncle and brother in H. H. Van Gorden & Sons feed mill in Neillsville.

Out of town relatives attending the wedding included: Dr. and Mrs. John P. Olson of Rochester, N. Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shodd, an uncle and aunt of the bride, of Sheboygan; Mrs. Cyrena Dierauer of Minneapolis; Kenneth Fremstad of Stanley; and Mr. and Mrs. Heron Van Gorden of Neillsville.
