Colby, Bert  (21 JUNE 1866-30 JAN 1947)

 

Bert W. Colby was born at McHenry, Ill., on June 21m 1866, and died in his home at Crystal Lake, Ill., on Jan. 30, 1947, of heart ailment at the age of 80 years and seven months.

 

His parents were Ora C. and Emma Colby, old residents of Crystal Lake. After spending the early part of his life  in McHenry county, he moved with his parents to Crystral Lake in 1881.

 

Oct. 1, 1890, heralded his marriage to Flora Jackman of Crystal Lake. To this union four children were born: James and Raymond of Loyal, Mrs. Emma Johnson of Sebeka, Minn., and Mrs. Florence Dahl of Paris Tex.

 

The first 10years of married life were spent in Crystal Lake, where he worked for his father in the general merchandise business. He then came with his family to Loyal, where he bought and operated a mercantile business. In 1920. after 20 years of successful operation, he sold his business to his boys and with his wife, moved back to Crystal Lake, his home ever since.

 

He has been a member of the Methodist church for 60 years and has served his Lord by singing in the choir, by giving regular attendance to worship and church school, and by serving as a member of the official board.

 

He was a loving husband, a kind father and grandfather, and a friend to children. Relatives, friends and acquaintances mourn his passing but join in commending his soul to its Author. The Tribune also joins in expressing sympathy to the surviving relatives in their loss.
