Robert F. Delis, 80, Greenwood, died at his home on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m., until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Terri Blomberg will officiate. Burial of cremains will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery.

 

Robert Frank Delis was born on March 31, 1929, in the town of Taft, rural Thorp, to Walter and Ruby (nee Piper) Delis. When he was a young boy, his family moved to a farm near Curtiss, where he grew up and completed his education. On July 21, 1947, he began working at Roddis Manufacturing, Marshfield. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 13, 1950, and served until Dec. 13, 1952, at which time he transferred to the Army Reserve and served until his honorable discharge on Oct. 24, 1956. He returned to work at Roddis, in December 1952, and also began cooking at Katie’s Dairy Bar, Greenwood, at nights and on weekends. He retired from Roddis after 45 years of employment on April 24, 1992. He resided in Greenwood until the time of his death. He was a member of the Greenwood American  Legion and enjoyed woodworking and his dog, Molly.

 

Survivors include his siblings, Art (Diane) Delis, Banning, Calif., Don (Sue) Delis, Milwaukee, Walter (Janet) Delis, Stratford, Richard Delis, Marshfield, Eleanor Powalish Palatine, Ill., Louise Krause, Abbotsford, and Yvonne Boushan, Marshfield; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Delis, Auburndale; his extended family, Donna (Ribbie) Hinker, Greenwood, and their children, Amy (Shawn) Standiford and Justin (Sheri) Hinker, with grandchildren Storm and Sawyer Standiford and Maxwell and Taye Hinker; Thomas (Susan) Hefner, Oconomowoc, and their family; and James (Debra) Hefner, Farmington, Utah, and their family; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Carl Delis; and his dear companion, Katie Hefner.
