Onstead, Alex (5 January 1878 - 21 December 1956) 
 

Alex Onstead, 78, died at 6 o’clock Friday evening, at the Subke Old Folks Home, where he had made his home recently.  Death was attributed to a heart attack.  
 

Mr. Onstead was born January 5, 1878, at Gilmanton, in Buffalo County.  Most of his life was spent in Merrillan.  Funeral services were held Sunday in Merrillan, and burial was made there.  
 

In recent years Mr. Onstead had lived at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George Hoffman, in Merrillan.  
 

Surviving beside Mrs. Hoffman is a daughter in Eau Claire and a son in Menomonee Falls, as well as two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 
 

Mr. Onstead was the first patient admitted to Memorial Hospital on opening day, October 13, 1954.  He was a patient there for some time.  He had been living in Neillsville the past two years.
