Konecny, George W. (July 25, 1929 - January 16, 2010)

George W. Konecny, age 80, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Colonial Center Nursing Home, Colby, where he had resided for the past two years, most recently under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice of Marshfield.

George was a former township of Holton and Dorchester resident.

George was born July 25, 1929, in Medford. George grew up in the town of Holton, and received his education by walking across the road to attend Draper Elementary School. He farmed with his parents and brother until his retirement in June of 1985, when he moved into Dorchester.

George never married. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing cards. He had a love of music, especially polkas which he played on his violin and guitar. George was noted for his distinctive sense of humor and one-liners. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Dorchester and a longtime member of the Owen Masonic Lodge until 2007.

Survivors include his brother, Joseph S. Konecny of Colby; two nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Charles Konecny; and mother, Mayme Erickson.
Private services will be held at a later date with interment in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery-South.
