Farning, John (13 September 1904 - 31 May 1956) 
 

John Farning, 51, of Minocqua, a former Greenwood resident, died May 31 at Ford Convalescent Home at Rhinelander, following a long illness. 
 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Stabnow Funeral Home in Greenwood.  The Rev. Ethel Nulton officiated.  Burial was made in the Greenwood cemetery. 
 

Mr. Farning, the son of he late John and Mary (Luchterhand) Farning, was born in the Town of Eaton, September 13, 1904.  He received his education in the Janesville Settlement and grade school here.  He had been employed in the northern resort area the past 10 years.  He was employed at the Door and Sash Factory at Wausau for several years, prior to that.  Mr. Farning was not married. 
 

He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Robert of Schiller Park, Ill.; Clarence of Colby; Mrs. Walter (Helen) Gehrke of Wausau; Miss Iola Farning of Greenwood; and Henry Farning of Abbotsford. 
 

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Edward, and one half-sister, Mrs. Louis Barton. 
 

Mrs. Mary Schroeder, accompanied by Mrs. William Olson, sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide With Me." 
 

Pallbearers were: Arthur Syth, Albert Schuette, Henry Johnson, Robert McConnell, Hugh Christie, and Leo Stanley.
