Schlegelmilch, Margaret Mary (31 Jan. 1928 - 10 Dec. 2009)

Margaret Mary Schlegelmilch passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Heritage Court Assisted Living Community in Eau Claire.

Margaret was born January 31, 1928, in Loyal, to Leander and Julia (Weber) Schuld. She was raised on a farm and attended the Pleasant View School. After leaving home, she honed her lifelong culinary skills while working as a private cook in Wilmette, Ill. She eventually moved to Neillsville and married Norbert Schlegelmilch on February 26, 1949. Together, they raised six children and ran a successful milk delivery business.

Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her main passion in life could be summed up in one word and that is "family." Nothing was more important to her than both her immediate and extended families. In the early 1980s, she took her passion to a new level when, equipped with just an old typewriter and a gritty determination, she compiled and published complete family histories of both the Schuld and Schlegelmilch families. Having grown up as a child of the Great Depression, "Mom" practiced such skills as gardening and canning, darning socks, patching old blue jeans, and making quilts -- all in addition to being the best cook we've ever known. She was also an avid student of the Bible.

Margaret is survived by six children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Her children include Marian Jamison of Scottsdale, Ariz., Charles (Linda) Schlegelmilch of Neillsville, Wayne (Alea) Schlegelmilch of Ashland, Oregon, Norma (Lewis) Titus of Durand, Dennis Schlegelmilch of Compton, Ariz., and Kristine (Don) Woolner of Neillsville. She is further survived by three brothers; Gerald (Peggy) Schuld of Sun City West, Ariz., Romaine (Doris) Schuld of Milwaukee, and David (Lori) Schuld of Sun City, Ariz., and two sisters; Josephine (Louis) Schmidt of Eau Claire, and Marilyn (Wayne) Miller of Phoenix, Ariz.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leander and Julia Schuld, her husband, Norbert Schlegelmilch, a brother, Alfred Schuld, a sister, Elenora Long, and a grandson, Brent Titus.

Visitation will be at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A memorial service will also be at the funeral home and begins at 11 a.m.
