Gahl, John Fred (25 March 1868 - 20 May 1954) 
 

John Fred Gahl, 86, of Neillsville Rt. 2, died Thursday, May 20, at the Neillsville Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days. 
 

Funeral services, in charge of the Georgas Funeral Home, were held Saturday, May 22, at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Neillsville with the Rev. William Koehler officiating at the rites. 
 

The body was taken to the Pinnow Funeral home, in Marengo, Ill., where interment took place.  
 

Mr. Gahl was born March 25, 1868, in Germany to John and Caroline (Zillman) Gahl.  He came to America with his parents when he was 15 years of age and the family settled in Sheffield, Ill.  They farmed in that area for several years and he worked out several jobs when as young man.  He came to Clark County and, following the death of his wife, made his home with the William J. Schulz family in the Town of Hewett. 
 

Mr. Gahl was a hunting and fishing enthusiast and did cabinet work as a hobby. 
 

He was married in February, 1891, to May Kemphert at Huntley, Ill.  His wife died in August, 1924. 
 

Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Anna Dietrich of Hampshire, Ill.; and one brother, William Gahl of Union, Ill. 
 

Preceding him in death were his wife, two sisters and one brother. 
 

Pallbearers were: Ellis Wall, Henry Harder, Henry Stucki, Hiram Haugen, Ted Greschen and Albert Zank. 
 

Out of town relatives attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Montman, Minneapolis, Minn. and Mr. and Mrs. Milford Tesmer, Marshfield.
