Hiles, Joann Kay (2 December 1948 - 4 November 2009)  
 

Joann Hiles, 60, of Neillsville died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville. 
 

Joann Kay Hiles was born Dec. 2, 1948, in Neillsville, the daughter of William and Josephine (Chapel) Hiles.  She graduated as valedictorian of the 1967 Granton High School graduating class.  She then attended and graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in elementary education.  Joann taught at St. Ann’s Catholic School in Loyal, Granton Public School and Colby Catholic School, where she was also a teacher’s aide. She lived with and took care of her parents for 25 years. She also fed calves on the Zank farms for six and one-half years. She worked at Figi’s in Neillsville and in food service at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville. 
 

Joann was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville.  She had a special love for animals, especially cats and calves.  She also loved to bake, and she loved the Rolling Stones, the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers.  Most of all she loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. 
 

She is survived by her siblings, Linda (Donald) Erickson of Neillsville and their son, Jeremy (Missy) Erickson and their daughter Ava of Sparta, Amber (Ronald) Zank of Neillsville and their children, Clint (Heidi) Zank and their son, Brayden of Neillsville, and their daughter, Becky Zank of Hartland, Donna Hanuszczak of Marshfield, and her daughter, Autumn (Jim) Marshall and their son, Logan of Neillsville, Sharon (Mike) Struensee of Neillsville and their children, Sarah (Matt) Marty and their children, Kelsey and Breanna of Neillsville, Carolyn Scheel of Madison, Lacey and Ben Struensee of Neillsville and Jenny Struensee of Eau Claire and Mark (Julie) Hiles of Granton and their children, Mandy (Travis) Coyle and their daughter, Fox of Medford and Jenny (Jason) Hoffman and their son Doug of Marshfield.  
 

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. 
 

Funeral Services for Joann were held at 11 a.m. Monday Nov. 9, 2009 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville with Pastor James Gordon officiating.  Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and one hour preceding services at the church.  Interment was in the Windfall Cemetery in Granton. 
 

Casketbearers were her nephews.
