Smith, Lyman T. (Nov 18, 1882-Oct ?,1910)

The remains of Lyman T. Smith were brought here for burial Thursday night, services being held in the Congregational Church Friday afternoon and interment being made in the Neillsville Cemetery.  The deceased was born at Red Willow, Neb., Nov. 18, 1882, and came to Neillsville in 1899.  He attended the Neillsville high school and later taught school in Wood County for one year.  He learned the jewelry business and was engaged in business at Granton for four years and at Loyal for two years.  He left Loyal last June and went to Albion, Mich., where he went into business, but owing to poor health gave it up, and went to Watertown, N.Y., where he was employed with the Davey Tree Expert Co.  Last week he was transferred to Willoughby, Ohio, with his brother Dale, and had only worked at his new position for an hour and a half when he fell a distance of 60 feet from a tree and was injured so badly that he only lived a few hours.

He is survived by his father and mother and sister, Eunice, of Ashland, Ore., brothers, Dale of Willoughby, and Charles of Waukegan, Ill., and sisters, Mrs. Oscar Finch, Miss Adah of Sparta, Mich., Mrs. Everett Fisher of St. Paul and Miss Norma of Rush Lake Wis.  All of the family were here to attend the funeral except the father, mother, and sister of Ashland, Ore.

Mr. Smith was an exceptionally industrious and painstaking young man.  He was at all times reliable and honorable and his untimely death marks the passing of a noble young man.
