Richard & Catherine Winter 
 

Richard Arnold and Catherine Ann Winter of Granton celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on August 30, 2009. 
 

A dinner was held at the home of Paul, Julie and Marissa Plautz of Greenwood, WI with all of the couples’ children and grandchildren, brothers and sisters and many other relatives and friends. A mock wedding was held with Hannah Strickland, granddaughter, of Stratford, WI, as the bride, Phillip Sersch, friend, of Stratford, WI, as the groom and Tom Elmhorst, brother of Cathy Winter, from Alburque, NM, as the Pastor. Attendees were Lorraine Porath, Owen, WI, sister of the groom, bridesmaid. Gerry Scharf, sister of the bride, Granton, WI, bridesmaid. Barbara Bendlin, Milton, WI, flower girl, sister of the bride. Deceased members of the wedding party, Don Scharf, brother in law of bride, Neal Fero, friend of the groom and Debbie Porath, niece of the groom, flower girl. 
 

They were married September 5, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church (Mapleworks) in, Granton, with the Reverend Lawrence Schrieber officiating and the Reverend Marvin Beninga as the soloist. 
 

Richard was born July 8, 1932 in the Town of Grant to Arno and Nina Winters. He graduated from Granton in 1950. He lived at home until enlisting with the Army’s Military Police in New York 1956 to 1958. 
 

The former Catherine Elmhorst was born May 19, 1941 in the Town of York, Granton to Frederick and Christine Elmhorst. She graduated from Loyal High School in 1959. She lived at home until her marriage in 1959. Her hobbies include cake decorating, walking and reading, baking and cooking, and enjoying her grandchildren. 
 

The couple currently attend Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton, where Richard has been on the Church Council and Catherine has been a Sunday School Teacher. 
 

Since their marriage, the couple have farmed in the Town of Lynn, Granton which was originally the Henry Winter Farm, Richard’s Grandfather’s farm which has been in the Winter family for 118 years. They farm with their son Kevin who has a Honey Bee Business with 35 Hives of bees. They sell the honey in local stores and from home. 
 

Their children include Constance Curran, Mt. Horeb, WI, Marcia (Rick) Garza, Stratford, WI, Kevin Winter, Granton, WI, Carolyn (Dave) Blumer, Cheteck, WI, Julie (Paul) Plautz, Greenwood, WI and Baby Girl Winter who died at birth March 26, 1966. They have 7 grandchildren, Kyle and Dan Curran, Mt. Horeb, WI, Hannah an Karl Strickland, Stratford, WI, Logan and Lana Blumer, Chetek, WI and Marissa Plautz, Greenwood, WI.
