Josephine Olejniczak was born on March 7, 1923 in Thorp, WI to Andrew and Anna (Luebrandt) Olejniczak and received her education at area schools.  After completing her education, Josephine moved to Chicago, IL to work.  She was united in marriage to Alex Gabrys on June 27, 1948 in Chicago.  Alex and Josephine moved to Gilman in 1951 and farmed until retirement. They later moved to Thorp in the 1990’s.

In her spare time, she enjoyed canning, gardening, baking and in addition, Josephine was a great cook.  She loved to shop, sing, dance, and "cruising" in the convertible.  Josephine became an avid Packer fan in her 80’s.  Josephine had a great sense of humor and she enjoyed a good laugh and a "cup of coffee."  Our mother was a very gentle, kind and loving person and she will be missed by all.

She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp and was a previous member of St. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church in Gilman.

Josephine is survived by her four children: Margie Gabrys of Eau Claire, Leonard Gabrys of Balko, OK, Bob (Marcie) Gabrys of Gilman, and Bruce (Theresa) Gabrys of Eagle River, AK.  She is also survived by five grandchildren: Ann (John), Neal (Rene’), Johanna (Rhu), Stephanie (Alton), and Paul and one great-grandchild, Marianna Joellen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alex on August 4, 2006; one daughter, Ann, in infancy; and three brothers: Tony, Wally and Stanley.
