Scheer, Sophia #3 (1 JAN 1875 - 19 JAN 1953)

Mrs. John Scheer, a pioneer resident of the Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) community passed away in Milwaukee on Jan. 19^th, 1953 after being ill for some time, suffering from diabetes.  She was 78 years of age.  Her remains were returned to this community for burial.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Jan. 23^rd, at the Green Grove Church with Rev. R. J. Scholz officiating.  Burial was made in the parish cemetery.  The deceased had been a member of the parish since 1902 and a member of its ladies aid for 35 years.  During the service members of the aid sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and the choir sang "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages."

Pallbearers were Milton Henn, Wayne Scheer, Vern Wittlinger, Donald Schultz, Allen Stange and Rueben Zimmerman.  Those in charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Milton Henn and Misses Joan Scheer, Jean Stange and Pearl Wittlinger.

Mrs. John Scheer, nee Sophia Witt, was born on Jan. 1, 1875 in Outagamie County where she received her schooling in the public school.  On April 19, 1900 she and John Scheer exchanged wedding vows in a ceremony performed at Appleton, Wis.  That same year the couple moved from Outagamie County to the Curtiss community, settling on a farm in the Town of Green Grove, where they resided for 49 years then retiring from the farm, they moved to the village of Unity.

Mourning her passing are he husband, two sons, Orland, Spencer, Wis.; and Merlin of Compton, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Lorinda Schultz, Loyal; Mrs. Irma Leamancyk and Mrs. Alma Henn, Milwaukee; Mrs. Hilda Wittlinger, Curtiss and Mrs. Linda Oestreich, Loyal; three sisters, Miss Emma Witt, Milwaukee; Mrs. John (Annie) Bohl, and Mrs. Mary Riehl, Appleton; one brother, Fred of Loyal; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of friends in the community where she lived and endeared herself for so many years.
