Ellingson, Martin C. (1878 - 18 Dec. 1952) 
 

On Monday, Dec. 22, the body of Martin C. Ellingson was interred at the Abbotsford cemetery. Mr. Ellingson died Dec. 18, at the home of his son, Arvin, at Gladstone, Mich. 
 

Mr. Ellingson was born at Stetsonville, in 1878. After his marriage to Stella Moss, also of Stetsonville, they lived in Dorchester and Mr. Ellingson operated a sawmill five miles east, at Bruckerville, also known as Jerkwater. 
 

In the summer of 1900 he set up a sawmill where the town of Milan grew up. While Mr. Ellingson had no part in naming the town - it was a railroad siding - credit is due him for establishing the town. Houses and business places multiplied and the post office was moved from Bushman. Mr. Ellingson was the first postmaster at Milan and served in that capacity until he retired a few years ago. He had many business interests in the settlement, including that of the Milan Store Co. The sawmill operated until 1926. 
 

Mr. Ellingson is survived by two sons, Eldred, New Albany, Indiana; and Arvin, of Gladstone, Mich. He leaves his sister, Miss Mary Ellingson, now also of Gladstone; three grand children, Arvin, Jr., and Marvel, of Gladstone; and Mrs. Rudy (Adell Ellingson) Moherek, of Racine; and three great grand children, at Racine. 
 

His wife preceded him in death Dec. 23, 1936, and one brother, Charles, and sister, Emma.
