Selves, Richard Nelson (18 March 1874 - 30 April 1952)

 

Richard Nelson Selves, age 78, died at his home on 400 Forest Street during his sleep on April 30.  He had been in ill health for the past three years. 

 

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday at two o’clock from the Georgas Funeral Home with the Rev. William Koehler officiating.  Interment was made in the Town of Grant Cemetery.

 

Mr. Selves was born on March 18, 1874, to John and Sarah (Buss) Selves.  He attended rural schools and the Neillsville High School.  On October 15, 1902, he was married to Musa West at Pleasant Ridge, Neillsville.  He was treasurer of the Town of Grant for 25 years and held various town and county offices.  Six years ago, due to ill health, he disposed of his farm and moved to the city.

 

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Norman (Gladys) Douyette, Minocqua; Mrs. Earl (Orvilla) Zille, Neillsville; Lee Selves of Granton; Mrs. Erwin (Edna) Sternitzky, Granton; Mrs. William (Elsie) Hintz of Marshfield; Mrs. Armin (Ruth) Moh, Granton; Mrs. Charles (Ruby) Richardson of Racine; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one brother, Ted Selves of Neillsville. 

 

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Veda, Mrs. Fred Pretsch, in 1938 and one son, Forest, in 1946; two sisters, Mrs. August (Stella) Snyder and Mrs. Henry (Kate) Brown, and three brothers, Tom, William, and Elmer.

 

The male chorus of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church sang two selections under the direction of Mark Vornholt.

 

Floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. William Vine and Mrs. Alfred Magnuson.

 

Pallbearers were: Hugh Selves, H. L. Brown, Frank Brown, Alfred Magnuson, William Vine and E. H. Snyder.

 

Persons from out of town attending the rites included Mr. and Mrs. Norman Douyette and family and Mrs. Gertrude Cater of Minocqua, Mr. and Mrs. William Hintz and son, Dennis, and Mrs. Ed. Hintz of Marshfield, Mrs. Francis Ness, Mrs. A. L. Swanson, Mrs. Elmer Seehafer, Mrs. Harold Weichelt of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richardson of Racine, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Selves of Madison, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Reisner of Sheldon, Wis.
