Trunkel, John (15 February 1940 - 5 June 2009) 

 

John Trunkel, 69, of Neillsville died Friday, June 5, 2009, at his home. 

 

John Trunkel was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Willard, the son of John and Viola (Hahn ) Trunkel.  He attended school to the sixth grade in Willard and then moved to Chicago, where he finished his schooling.  After finishing his education, John became manager of a Jewel Grocery Store in Chicago, IL.  He was united in marriage to Virginia Cairo in Chicago.  They later left Chicago and moved back to the Willard area, where John worked as a carpenter for Stanley Volovsek.  In 1976, they purchased Prock’s Grocery Store on Neillsville’s north side.  They operated it as a grocery store until 1980 when John turned the building into his carpentry shop. Virginia died March 21, 1982.  John then married Elizabeth Ann Sydorowicz  Dec. 11, 1982.  He continued in the carpentry business for many years and later became a manager of an apartment complex in Marshfield and Port Edwards. He retired in February of 2008. 

 

John enjoyed camping and fishing. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Trunkel; children, Joe Trunkel of Neillsville, Ronald (Barb) Trunkel of Neillsville, Jim (Tammy) Trunkel of Greenfield, Stephen (Tracey) Sydorowicz of Milwaukee, Mark (Nicki) Sydorowicz of Neillsville, Donna Sydorowicz of Ladysmith, and Christine (Eric) Koula of West Salem; 18 grandchildren; and a stepsister, Janice (Mick) Weyhmiller of Spencer. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia, and his parents. 

 

A Memorial Service for John will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Fr. Woodrow H. Pace will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gesche Funeral Home.
