Luber, Bertha (4 MAY 1873 - 11 JAN 1952)

Death came quietly to Mrs. Bertha Luber at 8:15 Friday evening at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, where she had been a patient for the past five weeks being taken from her home at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) to the hospital on the 8th of December when she was seriously stricken by a heart condition.  For the past two years her health had been failing.  She was 78 years of age at the time of her death.  With her at the time were two step-daughters, Mrs. Mary McCormick of Culbertson, Montana and Mrs. Charlotte Wald of Minneapolis.

Funeral services were conducted from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, with Rev. Walter Schedler officiating.  Burial was made in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Fred Brandt, Joe Brandt, Richard Rabska, Jr., Harold Heideman, Norbert Bruchert and Leon Bruchert.  Those in charge of the floral offerings were Mesdames Harold Heideman, Fred Brandt, Joe Brandt, Norbert Bruchert and Emil Niemi.

The deceased was born on May 4, 1873 at Plathe, Germany, coming to the United States in 1889, making her home in Glenwood City for three years.  In 1896 she was united in marriage to Paul Raymond who preceded her in death 44 years later in 1910.  This marriage was blessed with one son, Harry P. Raymond.  Four years later in 1914 she and Conrad Luber were united in marriage.  The couple lived on a farm east of Marshfield until 1940 when Mr. Luber passed away.  Shortly after Mr. Luber’s death she sold the farm, moving to the village of Withee where she purchased a home and has since resided.

A devoted Christian, she had belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church ever since coming to Withee and was active in the parish doings, as she was in her companionship with her many friends, all of whom she was able to enjoy up to the time she left for the hospital.  Mrs. Luber was a highly respected citizen who lived a quiet, contented, peaceful life in her home, finding comfort and condolence in the readings and teachings of her Bible.

Surviving are her son Harry Raymond of Charlotte, N.C., one sister, Emma Bruchert, Withee, two brothers, Richard Brandt, Marshfield and Bernhard Brandt, Withee, and four step-children, Austin Luber, Seattle, Wash.; Roy Luber, Marshfield; Mary McCormick, Culbertson, Montana and Charlotte Wald, Minneapolis, Minn.

Among those from away here for the services were Mrs. Mary McCormick, Culbertson, Mont., Mrs. Charlotte Wald and two sons, Roland and Ervin of Minneapolis and John Barager, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
