Poate, Frances #2 (7 JAN 1819 - 4 APR 1910)

 

Monday Mrs. Frances Poate died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Bussby, at St. Paul.  She was born in Staffordshire, Wolverhampton, England, Jan. 7, 1819.  She was married to James Poate and came to this county in 1856, settling at Portage (Wis.).  Mr. Poate died in 1864 and since that time Mrs. Poate made her home with her daughters in St. Paul and with her son, W.A. Poate, in this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.).  She is survived by seven children: W. A. Poate of this city, Fred Poate of Hudson, Mrs. Sam Slifer and Mrs. James Bussby of St. Paul, Henry Poate of La Crosse and Edward Poate of Denver, Col.  Mrs. Poate was a lady of kindly disposition and unusual education, and even during her old age was quite active.  The remains will be brought to this city today for interment.  Services were held at St. Paul and the body taken from the train here to the cemetery.  Rev. Burrows officiates at the grave.
